Terms of Service

The short version: NeuroBridgeEDU is free for individuals and educational institutions to use under our non-commercial open source licence. We provide it 'as is', we don't warrant any specific outcome, and your data stays yours. The full terms below cover the edge cases.

Section 01

Acceptance

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the NeuroBridgeEDU desktop application and the marketing website at neurobridgeedu.eu (together, the "Services"). By installing, launching, or otherwise using the Services you agree to these Terms.

If you don't agree to these Terms, don't use the Services. We won't track or restrict you — we just can't extend any of the rights described below.

Section 02

What the services are

NeuroBridgeEDU is a local-first desktop application that records audio, transcribes it (using Whisper), and produces summaries (using Mistral AI, EuroLLM, or your choice of cloud provider). The application runs entirely on your device by default; cloud features are opt-in per session.

The marketing website at neurobridgeedu.eu is the public-facing information surface for the project: what it does, who built it, how to download it, and how to reach us.

Section 03

Licence to use

The desktop application source code is released under the NeuroBridgeEDU Non-Commercial Open Source Licence. In plain language:

  • Individuals can use the application for personal, educational, or research purposes — at no cost, with no time limit.
  • Educational institutions (schools, universities, accessibility offices) can deploy and use the application for non-commercial educational purposes, at no cost.
  • Source code is auditable: read it, fork it, contribute back. The full licence text lives in the LICENSE file at the root of the GitHub repository.
  • Commercial deployment (selling the application, embedding it in a paid product, hosting it as a paid service) requires a separate commercial licence — contact us at contact@neurobridgeedu.eu.

The "NeuroBridgeEDU" name and logo are trademarks of Emanuel Covasa. You may use them in good-faith reference to the project (reviews, articles, talks); commercial use of the marks requires permission.

Section 04

Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Services to:

  • Record audio of any person without the consent legally required in your jurisdiction. NeuroBridgeEDU records what your microphone picks up; the legal obligation to obtain consent is yours.
  • Process content that you don't have the right to process — copyrighted material, confidential information you're not authorised to handle, or personal data of others without a lawful basis.
  • Reverse-engineer or modify the Services for the purpose of removing the open-source attribution or licence terms.
  • Use the Services to harass, defame, harm, or surveil any person.
  • Use the Services in any way that violates applicable law in your jurisdiction.

Section 05

Privacy and your data

Your use of the Services is governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes what data we touch and what rights you have under the GDPR.

In short: your recordings, transcripts, and summaries stay on your device. We don't have them and don't want them. If you opt into cloud AI providers, the data you send goes directly from your device to that provider — we don't intermediate.

Section 06

Third-party services

The Services optionally integrate with third-party AI providers (Mistral Cloud, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, self-hosted Ollama). When you choose to use one of these:

  • You're entering a separate agreement with that provider, governed by their terms and privacy policy.
  • You're responsible for the API key and any costs associated with your usage of their service.
  • We don't accept liability for the third-party provider's actions, outages, or data-handling practices.

Section 07

No warranty

The Services are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, either express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, including without limitation any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, non-infringement, and quiet enjoyment.

Specifically: AI-generated transcripts and summaries can be wrong. You should not rely on them for decisions where accuracy is critical without independent verification. Whisper, Mistral, and EuroLLM are open models with documented limitations; please review each provider's model cards for known failure modes.

Section 08

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall NeuroBridgeEDU or Emanuel Covasa be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from:

  • Your access to or use of, or inability to use, the Services.
  • Any conduct or content of any third party on the Services (including any content generated by AI providers).
  • Unauthorised access, use, or alteration of your transmissions or content.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or death or personal injury caused by negligence.

Section 09

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be announced on the website and, where applicable, by email to waitlist members.

Continued use of the Services after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

Section 10

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ireland. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Services will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ireland, without prejudice to your rights as a consumer to bring proceedings in your country of residence.
